Pool Deck Restoration Los Monteros: Getting the Colour Right
In Los Monteros, on Marbella's eastern side, the deciding factor in a good stamped concrete restoration is usually the colour. The method is fixed (clean, repair, cut in, two coats of resin paint); the shade you choose determines whether the pool deck and drive look like they belong to the house.
Send us a photo and the m²How do you choose a colour for a restored pool deck?
Start from what does not change: the walls, the pool tiles, the stone or render of the house and the planting. We ask for daylight photos of each, then suggest a few tones that sit comfortably with them.
Darker greys hide marks well and give a crisp, contemporary look; warmer sandy and terracotta shades soften a traditional Andalusian style. Very light colours look fresh but show dirt sooner, which matters on a busy pool terrace.
Should the pool deck and the driveway be the same colour?
Not necessarily. Matching them ties the plot together, while a slightly different shade can separate the leisure area from where cars park and turn.
On our Marbella reference villa, the drive, the carport under the reed pergola and the garage apron were all finished in one deep, glossy tone, which made the whole approach read as a single surface.

What finish should I expect: matt or glossy?
Synthetic resin paint typically gives a satin to glossy appearance, and a deep colour makes the sheen more visible. The exact look and the grip of the surface when wet depend on the product, so we follow its data sheet, especially around the pool.
If you prefer a quieter, less shiny finish, tell us at the colour stage. Our page on resealing and recolouring explains the coating in more detail.
How is the colour applied so it looks even?
By preparing properly and covering the whole area twice. After pressure cleaning and crack filling, edges against walls, posts and steps are cut in by brush; then the open areas get the first coat and, once dry, the second.
Two coats are what turns a patchy, half-faded surface into a uniform one; a single coat would let old blotches ghost through.
How do I start?
Send photos of the area and of the house around it via the contact page, with a rough area and any colour ideas. We come back with a quote and suggested shades; you can also see finished tones in our gallery.
If you are unsure between two shades, we can coat a small trial patch in an inconspicuous corner so you see both in real light.
Frequently asked questions
Can I approve the colour from abroad?
Yes. We send photos of colour samples held against your existing surface, taken in daylight, and you choose by message or email. Many Los Monteros owners do this from home, then see the finished result in the final photos before they next visit.
Does my community or urbanisation restrict exterior colours?
Some do, especially for surfaces visible from the street or shared paths. Before we order materials, check your urbanisation's rules or ask the administrator. If there is an approved palette, we choose from that. A quick email to the administrator usually answers the question.
We let the villa in high season. When is the best time to recolour?
Outside the busy letting months, or in a free gap between guests. Recolouring needs the deck closed for cleaning, coating and drying as the data sheet sets out, so pick weeks when nobody is relying on the pool. A short closure in a quiet month is far easier to manage than one in peak season.
Who supervises the job if I'm not there?
Your house manager, a caretaker or simply our photo reports. We agree access with whoever holds the keys, document each stage, and send the results in English so you can raise questions before we leave. Each set of photos is dated, so you can see exactly how the job progressed.
Is there a Marbella permit for recolouring stamped concrete?
We have not verified this for Marbella (to be verified). Depending on location, the town hall may ask for a declaración responsable or a licence for exterior works. Please confirm with the Ayuntamiento de Marbella before we begin. A written description of the work from us can help if the town hall asks questions.
The house is in a gated part of Los Monteros. Is that a problem?
Not at all. We register with security in whatever way the estate requires, arrive on agreed dates and keep vehicles and equipment to a minimum. Since nothing is demolished, there is no heavy traffic through the gate. Our team works quietly between washing days, which neighbours generally appreciate.
Can a light-coloured deck be made darker, or the other way round?
Going darker is usually straightforward, as deep tones cover well. Going much lighter over a dark base can need more care to look even. We discuss the likely result honestly from photos before you commit. A sample patch on a corner of your deck shows the real effect before anything else is coated.
Will the colour hide repaired cracks?
Filled hairline cracks and small chips become far less noticeable under two coats of colour. Cracks that move with the ground may reappear, because their cause is below the surface; we point these out before quoting. Honest advice at this stage avoids disappointment once the colour is on.
Do you supply the paint for me to apply myself?
No. We do not sell products or give step-by-step DIY instructions. We carry out the full process ourselves, from cleaning to the second coat, so preparation and application are done properly. That way the result is our responsibility from start to finish.
Is the colour work included in the quote?
Yes. Our quotes cover cleaning, small repairs, edge cutting and two coats of colour. The figure depends on area, condition and access; photos let us judge these and reply with a clear price. There are no extras for the second coat or the brushwork along the edges.
