Stamped Concrete Resealing and Recolouring with Synthetic Resin Paint
If your stamped concrete has gone pale, a clear reseal alone will not bring the colour back; a coloured resin finish will. We prepare the surface, repair it and apply two coats of synthetic resin paint, which renews the colour and leaves a fresh protective film across the driveway, patio or pool surround.
Send us a photo and the m²What is the difference between resealing and recolouring?
Resealing usually means applying a clear sealer over imprinted concrete to refresh its sheen and protect it. Recolouring means applying a pigmented coat that gives the surface a new, uniform colour. Both form a film on top, but only one changes what colour you see.
That distinction matters on the Costa del Sol, where strong sun and years of use leave many stamped surfaces pale and blotchy. A clear coat over that would simply lock in the patchiness with a shine on top. When the colour itself has gone, the honest recommendation is a coloured finish.
| Clear reseal | Coloured resin, two coats | |
|---|---|---|
| Restores lost colour | No | Yes |
| Hides patchiness and repairs | No, they stay visible | Largely, under one tone |
| Keeps the original colour variation | Yes | No, it becomes uniform |
| Adds a fresh surface film | Yes | Yes |
We compare the two approaches in more depth in coloured resin versus clear sealer.
What is synthetic resin paint and why two coats?
Synthetic resin paint is a floor coating that forms a continuous coloured film on concrete once it dries. We use it because it gives stamped surfaces a deep, even colour while letting the texture of the pattern show through.
Two coats are what turn a recolour into a finished surface. The first coat bonds to the prepared concrete and evens out the base; the second builds the depth of colour and closes any thin spots or brush marks left by the first. On the Marbella villa, the first strips of colour were still visibly lighter in places until the final coat went on.

We do not name brands on this site, and we do not recommend products for DIY use. What matters for you is that the coating suits exterior concrete and that its data sheet is followed for mixing, application conditions and drying.
Why does preparation decide whether the resin lasts?
Because resin paint bonds to whatever it touches first. If that is dust, algae or a flaking old sealer, the new coat comes away with it. Preparation is therefore most of the job, not a preliminary.
- High-pressure cleaning to remove dirt, organic growth and loose coating.
- Inspection once dry, to spot cracks, hollow areas and old film that is not holding.
- Repair of cracks, chips and small holes so the surface is continuous.
- Masking or brush cutting-in along walls, posts, drains and copings.

Only once this is done do the two coats go on. If you want to understand the cleaning stage in more detail, our sister site on pressure washing before coating covers it.
Which surfaces suit a coloured resin finish?
Sound exterior stamped concrete: driveways, carports, garage aprons, paths, patios, terraces and pool surrounds. The common thread is a slab that is firm, level and not moving.
- For entrances and carports, see imprinted concrete restoration.
- For outdoor living areas, see patios and terraces.
- For the area around the water, see pool deck restoration, where grip and pool water need extra attention.
We do not apply it indoors, on industrial floors, or as parking line marking.
How do you choose the colour?
Start from the house, not from the colour chart. The walls, roof tiles, stone details and planting will sit next to the new surface for years, so the shade should support them rather than compete.
Darker tones hide everyday dirt and give a rich, polished look, like the finish in Marbella; lighter tones feel cooler in tone but show marks sooner. Our colour guide for imprinted concrete goes through the questions to ask before choosing.
Does a coloured resin finish suit a holiday let?
It suits it well, as long as the work is timed around bookings. A recoloured entrance and terrace photograph better, look cleaner between changeovers and give guests the impression of a villa that is properly looked after.
The practical point is scheduling. Cleaning, repairs, two coats and the drying stages need a clear window with nobody using the area, and the length of that window depends on the weather and the data sheet. Send your calendar with the photos and we will tell you whether the gap is realistic.
For owners who are not on the coast, we agree access in advance and send photos of the prepared surface and the finished result, so you can check the work before your next guests arrive.
When should a resin finish be renewed?
When it starts to look worn in the traffic lanes or loses its depth of colour, rather than at a fixed date. Sun, cars, pool water and cleaning habits all affect how quickly that happens, and the product data sheet is the reference for recoating.
A worn but well-bonded coat is easier to refresh than bare, neglected concrete, so keeping an eye on it saves preparation later. Our maintenance guide explains what to check each season.
Frequently asked questions
Is your service resealing or painting?
Both, in effect. We apply two coats of coloured synthetic resin paint, which gives the surface a new colour and a new protective film. If you only want a clear sealer over concrete whose colour is still good, tell us; for surfaces that have already faded, a clear coat will not solve the problem you can see.
Can a clear sealer bring back faded colour?
Not really. A clear sealer can deepen the existing colour slightly and add shine, but it cannot put back pigment that has weathered away. On a pale, patchy surface you would end up with shiny patchiness. That is why we recommend a coloured finish once the colour has gone.
Will the resin finish be shiny?
The Marbella driveway finished with a deep, glossy look. How glossy the surface appears, and how that changes over time, depends on the specific product and its exposure, so we refer to the data sheet. If you prefer a less shiny result, mention it at quote stage.
Can you apply resin over an old sealer?
If the old sealer is firmly bonded and clean, often yes. If it is peeling, white or flaking, the loose parts have to come off first, and sometimes more of the old film needs removing. We assess this from your photos and confirm on site after the pressure wash.
Does a coloured coat hide repaired cracks?
Mostly. Once filled and painted over, cracks tend to blend into the new uniform colour. They may still be faintly visible up close, and a crack caused by ground movement can open again later. The coating improves the look but cannot stop a slab from moving.
Can I choose a different colour from the original?
Yes. A coloured resin finish replaces the visible colour completely, so you can stay close to the original or change it. Bear in mind that a big change will make the surface feel different alongside walls and planting, so it is worth checking samples in daylight before deciding.
Is resin paint safe around plants and lawns?
We protect adjacent plants, lawn edges and irrigation during cleaning and painting, and we keep residues away from soil and drains. If you have delicate planting right up to the concrete, point it out in the photos so we can plan how to work along it.
How long does the coating take to dry?
Drying and reopening times are stated on the product data sheet and change with temperature and humidity. We do not promise a fixed number of hours; instead we confirm the plan for your dates and tell you or your manager when the surface can be used.
Do you seal block paving as well?
This site focuses on stamped concrete. The same company handles block paving and plain concrete through its sister sites, so if you have a mix of surfaces, send photos of everything and we can quote them together.
Can rain spoil the work?
Rain on fresh coating or on a wet surface can affect the result, so we only paint when the forecast and the surface conditions meet the data sheet requirements. If the weather turns, we move the date rather than risk it, and we let you know straight away.
What does stamped concrete resealing cost?
It depends on the area, the condition and the access. The guide price per square metre, covering cleaning, crack repair and two coats, is published on our price site. Your final figure is based on photos of your surface.
